I am interested in how school students construct their knowledge of science through appropriate teaching. Our group has developed a research programme regarding this, called “Design and Validation of Instructional Sequences.” Two dissertations in the programme have involved teaching about geometric optics and biological evolution through natural selection, respectively. Studies are under way about life cycles (Eva Nyberg), sound and hearing (Eva West), biological evolution (Clas Olander) and a particle model for solid, fluid, and gaseous states (Frank Bach).
I am interested in science instruction in the schools and the education of teachers for this. A key concept in this context is “subject-matter didactic competence.” This is explained in more detail in the following work by one of the members of our group:
