Research interests:
My research interest is in the sociology of education, and I have studied issues involving the effects of free schools on student learning. Studies of the importance of teacher competence and the meaning of teacher competence are also a central research interest, as is how home background impacts student achievement.
Teaching interests:
I teach and supervise on the importance of teacher competence in various respects, on the effects of free schools at the levels of the individual and society, on the impact of social background on education outcomes, and about reading ability.
