My dissertation work (2006) was part of a larger research project funded by the Swedish Research Council: “Altered Incentives in Swedish Adult Education” whose overall goal was to study restructuring processes in various practices in Swedish adult education (including higher education). With incentives as an umbrella concept, the various subprojects studied different aspects of the goal- and outcome-governance that has characterized education policy in recent decades. My contribution was life history studies of teachers in municipal adult education and to provide a contextual analysis of the types of activities and the organization that these careers and their paths have been interwoven with. Against this background, developments and changes in municipal adult education were discussed.
Since 2008 my research is on organizing and pedagogy in alternative high school education, the so-called Individual program, and of basic education for adults. The Swedish educational system is up for a major restructuring the coming years and we follow a handful of educational settings that are regarded as successful, to see how their organizing and their successful concept keeps stable and/or changes. We received funding from the Swedish Research Council in 2009 and the project ends in 2012. For a presentation in English, here is our ECER presentation of 2009.
I teach in several courses at the department: In the master program of educational leadership, in courses on adult education/adult learning and in action research based courses. I also teach in teacher education, in the general course “Learners and the teaching profession” (Lau 680). I am also involved in teacher training of VET teachers.
