Research interests:

The research issues that have especially interested me involve teaching, profession, and learning. This field comprises questions about education, professional practice, and continuing education in all professions, but I have been particularly interested in the teaching profession, where the mission involves a responsibility to organize other people’s learning through teaching. However, the teaching profession is shaped by many other factors. Of central importance is how teachers’ professional practice is interwoven with a regional world of specific objects, people, spaces, and activities that constitute an embodied professional practice. It is therefore interesting to study what worlds teachers incorporate and what opportunities and limitations this creates in regard to practising the profession.

I am also interested in the preconditions and conditions for the formation of educational knowledge and have devoted time to studies of scientific theory and methodology. A special interest I have pursued is the systematic development of theoretical resources in the life-world concept for empirical research.

A third area of work I have been engaged in is the interdisciplinary subdiscipline philosophy of education, which uses philosophical methods to address educational issues.
